Who We Are

Liturgy, Worship, and Educational Formation

The liturgy for all worship services is based on the Book of Common Prayer. The Eucharist is celebrated at our principal service at 10 am on Sundays. Services are held on Saturday (5 pm) and Sunday, 8 am and 10 am. Most services are based on contemporary language, Rite II, Enriching Our Worship, and the inclusive psalter.

Our music ministry is currently supported in a single service by two accomplished organists on a Hook & Hastings organ. The music ministry has at times included a jazz combo, solo operatic singers, and Reggae and roots musicians. The service has been known to expand to a local beach and explore new liturgies like Wild Worship at sites like Fogland Beach.

Bible Study is held from September to May at 9 am between the 8 am and 10 am services. This year, it will begin on September 14th. We will be exploring the three-legged stool of the Episcopal Church (Scripture, Tradition, and Reason), starting with "How to Read Scripture as Episcopalians." All are welcome.

Historical Roots

Holy Trinity Episcopal Church is the present-day manifestation of over 300 years of prayer, worship, and ministry in Tiverton, Rhode Island. The congregation understands our colonial roots, historic church building, and exemplary views of the Sakonnet River. This pride and conviction provide the energy to further spiritual growth in the community under Jesus Christ through worship services, outreach and stewarding our special place.

Community Connections and Outreach

Holy Trinity Church has and continues to provide outreach to the community. The lower level of the Parish Hall is primarily dedicated to the Holy Trinity Thrift Shoppe. The Thrift Shoppe accepts lightly used donations of clothing and goods and opens its doors to the community for a pleasurable, affordable shopping experience. The Trinity Trader is a significant source of funding for the church. Our upper Parish Hall is open weekly to a local chapter of Gamblers Anonymous; it is also open for wedding receptions, birthday parties, and family reunions. Our clergy and members of the congregation have supported the Newport County Prevention Coalition, the RI Council of Churches, and Love Wins. We also partner with the local Community Food Pantry at Stone Church and the New Bedford Salvation Army Soup Kitchen.

Holy Trinity Church welcomes everyone. Whoever you are and whatever you come from, you are welcome here. Our community affirms the good news we find in the Gospel: you belong before you believe. We believe each person has a gift to bring to the life of our church, and we empower people to discover and enact these gifts in our life together as a holy and living sacrifice to God.

We are a little church with a big heart that reflects the mosaic of the local community. We are a family of about eighty persons across age groups, incomes, nationalities, professions, and family systems. As a diverse congregation, an ethic of sustained care, hospitality, theological curiosity, and belonging unites us at Holy Trinity. We understand ourselves as an extended family, woven as one body where each member plays an integral part in the whole.

Our members care about each other and welcome all who come into our home. It’s easy for everyone to get to know each other at our popular coffee hours and to become involved in the life of the church without getting lost in the crowd. We worship together, work together, and strive to live out God’s word together.

We are all called to be ministers

Holy Trinity believes that each of us who is baptized is called to ministry, and that the talents that God has given us will determine where and how we can serve. We have a variety of ministries and activities for parishioners to take part in and encourage people to discover what their passion is and to offer that passion is service to God.

Worship is our focus at Holy Trinity. It is when we sing to God, pray to God and are fed by God. It is also the time when we meet as a community, supporting and encouraging each other in our faith and in our lives, in our joys and in our sorrows.
