What We Do

At Holy Trinity Church, we believe each person has unique gifts to share in service to God and our community. Our ministries and activities allow parishioners to live out their faith through worship, service, and fellowship, creating a strong sense of family and belonging for everyone.

Worship Ministries

Worship is at the heart of what we do. Every service is an opportunity to come together, pray, sing, and be spiritually nourished. We encourage all members to participate in the liturgy, whether as acolytes, Eucharistic ministers, lay readers, ushers, or greeters. Our choir, open to all skill levels, brings depth to our services, expressing the full range of emotions through music.

Choir members are always needed to lead our hymns and anthems. Do you have a passion for lifting your voice in song? No experience required, just a joyful sound to share with our parish each Sunday during the 10:00am service and at Special Services (Christmas, Holy Week, etc.). "Next to the Word of God, music deserves the highest praise."

Eucharistic Ministers serve under the direction of the clergy and are authorized to administer the Sacrament during Celebrations of Holy Eucharist. After training by the parish clergy, a confirmed communicant will be licensed by the bishop at the request of the Rector. Schedule is posted on Ministry Scheduler Pro available on the website.

Ushers greet people as they enter the church to attend services, provide service bulletins and assist with seating as needed. They receive the offering, assist the congregation to the altar rail for Eucharist, inform the clergy of congregants unable to walk to the altar rail, and close the church following services. Arrival time of 30 minutes prior to the start of the service is suggested. Ministry Scheduler Pro (on the website) has names and dates for ushers at the various services.

Lay Readers/Lectors are invited to read lessons and prayers of the people as scheduled. Inquire at the office to get your name on the list. Any training will be done by the clergy. Ministry Scheduler Pro (on the website) has names and dates for lectors at the various services.

Acolytes are both young people, 5th grade or older, and adults, who are trained to assist at the altar during worship services. New acolytes would be trained and would shadow veteran acolytes before they assume full responsibilities.

Altar Guild prepares, maintains and sets up the furnishings of the altar and sanctuary for Sunday services and other liturgies throughout the year, such as Christmas and Easter, weddings and funerals. They are responsible for arranging altar flowers each week. This includes picking up flowers from a local florist and distribution after the service to parish members celebrating anniversaries or birthdays or other special events.

Coffee Hour Hosts and Hostesses A Volunteer Sheet is available in the Parish Hall. Volunteers leave their name(s) and date as hosts for a particular coffee hour after the 10:00am service on Sundays. The supplies are at the church and instructions are on the Volunteer bulletin board in the parish hall along with a sign-up sheet for your week of choice. Coffee (regular and decaf) and tea along with paper goods are provided by the church. The host(s) provide any sweets or savories to share along with milk and cream. The host(s) set up and help with the clean up. Information on operating the coffee maker is available in kitchen or inquire at the office.

Service Ministries

We believe everyone is called to serve, whether through community outreach, personal ministry, or lending a helping hand in church life. From preparing meals at the New Bedford Salvation Army to supporting the food pantry at Old Stone Baptist Church in Tiverton, our parishioners share their gifts and answer the call to care for our neighbors. Holy Trinity also organizes seasonal donation drives, including fresh produce grown in our church garden, to support those who need it most.

Collection Counters work as a team of 2 to count the weekly offering collection and other funds that may come in during the week. The counters arrange a time suitable between them, typically after the Sunday service or during the week.

Episcopal Charities Annual Appeal requires a coordinator to assist with parish members in response to the diocesan annual appeal.

Harvest Fair is our parish’s signature fund-raising event held yearly in the fall. Volunteers work together as a committee to coordinate all facets of this event. Everyone shares in fellowship and fun in the planning process.

Parish Gardeners are needed to maintain the church flower beds. Time involved is seasonal and flexible during the warmer months. Work includes planting, weeding, trimming of flowers gone by and minimal work to assist with spring and fall cleanups. Holy Trinity also nurtures a small vegetable garden which requires some maintenance. All produce is distributed to the local food pantry.

Stewardship Annual Campaign requires 1-2 chairpersons to coordinate this annual giving campaign. Stewardship refers to the sharing of our time, talent and treasure. It is a means by which we can strengthen and deepen our faith. Your pledge is an annual commitment made in good faith to give an amount of money to the church in this voluntary practice of pledging.

Grocery Receipts – Lees Market (Westport) and Clements Market (Portsmouth):
Save your grocery receipts from both Lees and Clements Markets and drop them in the baskets in the church entry or in the basket in the hallway on the lower level outside the Trinity Trader. The markets donate one percent of the grocery receipt totals. It’s something that everyone can do to support the church.

Vestry is the leadership body responsible for the parish. Works closely with the parish priest. Usually serves a 3-year term and meets monthly. Express interest in becoming a candidate for an open position by contacting the priest.

Trinity Trader Thrift Shoppe

Trinity Trader Thrift Shoppe is the backbone of our parish both financially and in offering outreach to our community. The Trinity Trader Thrift Shoppe is an all-volunteer group of parish members and friends who make it their aim to provide the community with an enjoyable shopping experience that doesn’t challenge their pocketbooks. Sale items include gently used clothing, household goods, books and more at bargain prices. The "Trader" can be supported through donations of items, becoming a volunteer, and/or becoming a customer. Must enjoy working with the public and having fun. The Trader is open on Thursdays and Saturdays.

Fellowship and Community Life

We view our congregation as an extended family, where everyone knows each other and has a place. Coffee hours, our annual Harvest Fair, and parish gatherings foster this sense of community. For many, Holy Trinity is a second home, a place to find comfort, support, and friendships that feel like family.

Support Groups and Outreach

In addition to our church ministries, Holy Trinity Church hosts Gamblers Anonymous, providing a safe and supportive space for those seeking healing. We are proud to offer a welcoming environment that supports the needs of individuals from all walks of life.

Together, we worship, serve, and grow in faith. There is a place for everyone at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church to live out their faith, find purpose, and be part of something greater.

New Bedford Salvation Army Soup Kitchen
Holy Trinity Church provides volunteers to assist the personnel at the New Bedford Salvation Army Soup Kitchen. Tasks include serving and clean up and often a hearty “Thank You” from the clientele. This currently occurs for the Friday noon serving.

Old Stone Church Food Pantry
Holy Trinity Church accepts donations year round of non-perishable goods which are delivered weekly to the Food Pantry located at Old Stone Baptist Church in Little Compton. Goods may be left in the Narthex at any time. A list of desired items is available there as well. A volunteer is the delivery person.

In the summer, Holy Trinity Church hosts a vegetable garden. All produce from the garden is delivered to the Food Pantry along with the non-perishable goods.
